Runners Compete in Schuylkill County's Toughest and Oldest Race, The Coalcracker 10K

On Saturday, runners competed in Schuylkill County's toughest and oldest race, the Coal Cracker 10K.

Over 150 people competed in Saturday's 6.2-mile race that began in Shenandoah, travelled down Route 924 along the Goldstar Highway to Gilberton, through Boston Run into Mahanoy Township, and back up Suffolk Road returning to Shenandoah.

This was the 42nd running of the event.

The 2022 and 2023 winner, Matthew Santacoloma, 22, of Olyphant, returned to defend and won the 2024 race with a time of 35:07 beating his 2023 time by 38 seconds.

The first female to cross the finish line was 41-year-old, Tracy Yutko with a time of 47:08.

Prior to the 10K, the 1.5-Mile Fun Run was held for the kids.
