UPDATE: Easton Man Charged in 2024 Schuylkill County Bank Robbery

Nearly a year after a robbery at a Schuylkill County bank, authorities have arrested and charged a Northampton County man in connection with the crime.

Joshua Haney, 41, of Easton, has been charged with felony counts of robbery, theft, and making terroristic threats stemming from a May 30, 2024, hold-up at the First National Bank located at 25 North Kennedy Drive in McAdoo Borough. The charges were formally filed on May 6, 2025. Haney was taken into custody and arraigned two days later before Magisterial District Judge Edward Tarantelli. He is currently lodged in Schuylkill County Prison on $250,000 straight cash bail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled before Judge Tarantelli on May 21, 2025.

According to court documents filed by the Pennsylvania State Police at Frackville, troopers were dispatched around 10:45 a.m. on May 30, 2024, after a hold-up panic alarm was triggered at the First National Bank. While en route, troopers learned the robbery had occurred approximately ten minutes prior and the suspect had fled the scene on foot. No injuries were reported.

Witnesses described the suspect as a light-skinned male wearing a flannel shirt, baseball cap, sunglasses, gloves, and a fake beard. The suspect allegedly handed a note to a teller demanding money in unmarked bills. Though no weapon was displayed, the teller complied, handing over approximately $2,158 in cash.

The suspect fled out the rear of the bank and was seen entering an alley before heading south on North  Cleveland Street. Surveillance footage captured the man entering a dark blue Toyota sedan and driving away.

Through video surveillance and witness interviews, investigators were able to identify a partial license plate—LNT-8**2—on the getaway vehicle, a 2019 dark blue Toyota Camry. License plate readers confirmed the vehicle was spotted near McAdoo shortly after the robbery and later captured traveling through Carbon County and returning to Easton later that day.

A tip forwarded to PSP-Reading linked the robbery to similar bank heists in Berks County and New Jersey. The tip included a suspect matching the description from the McAdoo robbery, including the method of operation and getaway vehicle. The suspect was identified as Joshua Haney of Easton.

State Police surveillance eventually located Haney and the vehicle at a location in Wilson Borough, Northampton County. He was taken into custody on an unrelated Northampton County bench warrant, and the Camry was seized as evidence.

During questioning at PSP-Belfast, Haney admitted to owning and exclusively using the vehicle in question. He claimed to have been in the Bethlehem and Easton area on the day of the robbery and denied being in McAdoo or even knowing where Schuylkill County was located. However, investigators say his statements directly contradict video and license plate evidence that places his vehicle at the scene and along the escape route.
