Blasting Operations to Impact Route 61 "The Grade" Traffic Through Late September

SCHUYLKILL COUNTY. - The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) says that short-term traffic stoppages will be in place on Route 61 “The Grade” between Frackville and St. Clair for blasting operations starting next week.
According to Sean Brown, Safety Press Officer for PennDOT Engineering District 5, the work will require rolling roadblocks lasting up to 15 minutes at a time between the hours of 11:00 am and 2:00 pm.

The blasting operations, which are part of the ongoing Route 61 reconstruction project, may take place on any day between Tuesday, August 20, 2025, and Tuesday, September 30, 2025.

PennDOT advises motorists to plan for potential delays and to use caution when traveling through the area during these times.
