A Minersville man is facing multiple charges after a confrontation with police during the service of a mental health warrant earlier this week.
On Monday, August 18, 2025, around 2 p.m., Minersville Police were dispatched to the 500 Block of Lytle Street for a report of a suicidal male who had cut himself and was bleeding heavily. The man, identified as Nelson Geigel-Cuena, 31, was the subject of an active mental health warrant and lived at the residence with his parents.
According to police, officers, along with Minersville EMS, arrived on scene. EMS recommended treatment for Geigel-Cuena, but he refused to cooperate. For approximately 30 minutes, officers and Chief Jeffrey Bowers attempted to reason with him, explaining that he was legally required to go either with EMS or police under the warrant.
Police say Geigel-Cuena refused, stating, “check my record, we’re going the hard way.” He then pushed a dining room table and chair aside, took a fighting stance, and advanced toward Patrolman Securda, allegedly trying to grab his Taser.
Patrolman Securda deployed the Taser, striking Geigel-Cuena in the arm, but it was ineffective. A second deployment to his back caused him to fall, but he continued to resist. Patrolman Joseph Kavanaugh then used his Taser in a drive-stun mode, allowing officers to subdue and handcuff him.
Geigel-Cuena was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital for treatment of self-inflicted wounds and a mental health evaluation. A review of his criminal history revealed prior charges of aggravated assault on law enforcement officers.
He is now charged with felony aggravated assault, felony disarming of a law enforcement officer, misdemeanor simple assault, and misdemeanor resisting arrest.
Geigel-Cuena was arraigned before on-call Magisterial District Judge Andrew Serina. Bail was set at $150,000 cash, and he was remanded to Schuylkill County Prison.
