Two Girardville Men Jailed After Axe and Knife Attack Sends Man to Hospital

Two Girardville men are facing charges after a violent late-night altercation involving an axe and multiple knives left a man with multiple stab wounds and hospitalized.
According to State Police at Frackville, troopers were dispatched around 11:30 p.m. Sunday, August 3, to the 100 block of North Line Street for a reported disturbance involving several people. Upon arrival, police found 29-year-old Marcus Sutton suffering from multiple stab wounds. He was transported by ambulance to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. His current condition has not been released.

Troopers immediately detained Isaiah Fasig, 20, and Anthony Lagambina, 27, both of 126 North Line Street, who were still at the scene.

During the investigation, police reviewed surveillance footage from a nearby garage that captured much of the confrontation.

According to court documents, the footage showed Fasig and Lagambina arguing with Sutton and his brother near Sutton’s parked vehicle at approximately 11:14 p.m. Fasig was seen wielding a double-edged axe and a knife during the exchange, while Lagambina carried another knife.

The situation escalated when Sutton’s vehicle stopped in the street as the two suspects were reportedly walking south in the middle of the road. Sutton’s brother, who was in the passenger seat, told police an argument broke out through the driver’s side window. Fasig allegedly stabbed Sutton while he was still seated in the vehicle, striking him twice on the left side and hitting him with the axe. The brother also claimed Lagambina stabbed Sutton twice.

Surveillance video further showed Lagambina entering a nearby home on Line Street with a knife and exiting without it. Police later obtained permission to search the residence, where they found four weapons, including two axes and two knives, one of which appeared to be bloody.

Back at the Frackville barracks, both suspects gave statements to troopers.

Fasig told investigators the confrontation stemmed from an earlier issue involving Lagambina and Sutton. Fasig said Lagambina feared Sutton was following him, so Fasig armed himself with an axe and knife and gave Lagambina a knife for protection. They then reportedly left the home to “find out what Sutton’s problem was.”

Fasig admitted to stabbing Sutton, claiming he only did so after Sutton allegedly grabbed the axe he was holding. “I coulda got his neck. You know what I mean? I wasn’t trying to hurt him. I was trying to get the weapon back off him,” Fasig told troopers, according to court documents. He added, “I had to give him a couple, you know, stabs,” because Sutton would not let go of the axe. He said he believed Sutton was drunk and unpredictable. When asked why he didn’t flee the scene, Fasig reportedly said, “It’s mine,” referring to the axe.

Lagambina, meanwhile, initially denied stabbing Sutton but admitted attempting to strike someone with the knife, saying, “I tried to hit someone, but I hit the fucking car.”

Following their arrests, both men were arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Edward Tarantelli on Monday morning. Fasig was charged with three felony counts of aggravated assault, along with simple assault, harassment, and disorderly conduct. Bail was set at $250,000.

Lagambina faces charges including simple assault, reckless endangerment, harassment, and disorderly conduct. His bail was set at $150,000.

Both suspects were unable to post bail and were committed to Schuylkill County Prison.
