A Berks County man is facing multiple charges after allegedly assaulting a blind Pottsville resident during an incident Wednesday morning at the Pottsville Motor Inn.
On October 8, 2025, around 6:11 a.m., Pottsville Police were dispatched to the inn at 480 North Claude A. Lord Boulevard for a reported threat. Officers learned that John Edward Filozof, who was also staying at the inn, knocked on the door of a blind male resident. When the victim answered, Filozof allegedly began screaming at him to “get the f*** out of his hotel,” despite the two having never met.
Police said Filozof then head-butted the victim twice, leaving him with a bleeding laceration and a contusion on his forehead. During the attack, Filozof continued to curse at the victim and threatened to kill him.
The victim was transported by ambulance to Lehigh Valley Health Network – East Norwegian Street for treatment of his injuries.
A short time later, officers took Filozof into custody. According to police, he attempted to fight and physically resist arrest before being subdued.
Filozof was arraigned via video conference before Magisterial District Judge James Reiley from Schuylkill County Prison. He faces charges of Aggravated Assault (F1), Simple Assault (M2), Terroristic Threats (M1), Resisting Arrest (M2), Harassment (S), and Public Drunkenness (S).
Judge Reiley set bail at $25,000 straight cash, and Filozof was remanded to Schuylkill County Prison.
