Schuylkill Fire Crews Respond to Multi-Alarm Row Home Fire in Mount Carmel

Firefighters from northern Schuylkill County were busy overnight when they responded to Northumberland County assist with a row home fire.

Just after 12:30am, on Monday, emergency personnel were dispatched to the 200 Block of South Poplar Street in Mount Carmel for a house fire.  Firefighters arrived to find multiple homes already engulfed in flames.

Within minutes of arrival, 2 of the homes collapsed and firefighters worked mostly defensively from the exterior trying to bring the fire under control.

As of 2:30am, firefighters were still fighting active fire.

At least 8 homes were damaged in the fire.  It was unknown as of this posting if anyone was home at the time of the fire or if there were any injuries.

The fire struck a third alarm which including Schuylkill County units from Girardville, Ashland, Englewood, Lavelle, Gordon, Mahanoy City, and Shenandoah.  The Rangers Hose Co., West End Fire Co., and Washington Fire Co. stood by to assist at the fire scene.  Englewood responded with their Rapid Intervention Team.  Lavelle and Gordon Fire Companies assisted with a tanker task force.  The Rescue Hook and Ladder from Shenandoah stood by at the Anthracite Fire Company to watch over the rest of the borough.
