ATV Rider Injured in Rush Township Crash While Crossing Route 54

An ATV operator was injured when two off-road vehicles collided while crossing Route 54 in Rush Township. 

According to the Pennsylvania State Police at Frackville, the crash occurred on November 23, 2025, around 10:55 a.m. as both riders were traveling from a dirt trail on the north side of Hauto Highway to a trail on the south side. 

Troopers say the second rider, identified as Spencer Fleischut, 37, of Colmar, began to slow down, prompting the first rider, 38-year-old John Sharp of Lansdale, to attempt evasive action. Sharp’s 2025 Polaris Sportsman 850 overturned, resulting in suspected minor injuries. 

He was transported by the Lehighton Ambulance Association to Geisinger–St. Luke’s Miners Campus. Fleischut, operating a 2011 Yamaha YZ450F, was not injured. 

Police listed “Following Too Closely” as the primary violation. 

Driver Escapes Injury After Swerving to Avoid Tick, Crashing into Pole in East Union Township

A Harleysville man avoided injury Saturday afternoon after losing control of his pickup while reacting to a tick crawling on his hand. 

State Police at Frackville report that the crash occurred on November 22, 2025, at 2:55 p.m. on Pole Road in East Union Township. 

Troopers say 76-year-old Rodney Werley was traveling east when he spotted a tick on his hand, causing him to jerk the steering wheel. His 2014 Nissan Titan veered off the road and struck a utility pole before coming to a stop. 

The truck sustained disabling front-end damage and was towed by Northern Keystone Towing. 

Werley was not injured and did not require EMS transport. He was cited for driving at an unsafe speed. 

Careless Driving Leads to Four-Vehicle Crash on PA-443 in East Brunswick Township

A Coaldale man was cited for careless driving after a multi-vehicle crash injured two people early December 2 on Clamtown Road in East Brunswick Township. 

According to the Pennsylvania State Police at Frackville, the crash happened at 5:48 a.m. when a 2022 Tesla driven by 30-year-old Weiyu Lu attempted to pass another vehicle by crossing into the eastbound lanes of PA-443. 

The Tesla struck a 2007 GMC Denali head-on, continued west in the wrong lane, and then hit a 2013 Ford Focus head-on. Debris from the Tesla also damaged a 2024 Ford F-250 traveling in the right eastbound lane. 

The drivers of the Denali, Jonathan Bellam, 44, of Honey Brook, and the Focus, Clifford Heistand, 64, of Hamburg, sustained suspected minor injuries; 

Bellam was transported by New Ringgold Ambulance. 

The drivers of the Tesla and the Ford F-250 were not injured. The Tesla, Denali, and Focus were heavily damaged and towed from the scene by Hope's Towing & Collision. 

Troopers stated that the Tesla operator, Lu, was cited for multiple violations of the Pennsylvania Vehicle Code.
