According to court documents, Monique Sifuentes, 27, of Pottsville, was charged by Pottsville Police with simple assault (domestic violence), a misdemeanor of the second degree, and public drunkenness, a summary offense. The incident occurred on January 10, 2026.
Police were dispatched at approximately 3:22 a.m. to the 1200 block of West Norwegian Street for a report of a physical altercation in progress. Upon arrival, officers made contact with an adult male who was observed bleeding from his left hand and had a torn shirt. Due to the injury and complaints that his hand felt numb, emergency medical services were requested.
According to police, the male reported that Sifuentes was intoxicated and had come outside with her car keys while not fully clothed. He stated that he attempted to prevent her from driving, at which point a physical altercation occurred. Police allege that Sifuentes ripped the man’s shirt and bit his hand, causing it to bleed. Officers also reported observing redness on the man’s chest. The incident was said to have occurred on the sidewalk and in the street.
Police then spoke with Sifuentes, who declined to provide details about the incident. She did confirm that she and the male are intimate partners and live together. Officers reported observing signs of intoxication, including the odor of alcohol, glassy eyes, slurred speech, and unsteady movement.
Based on the investigation, police allege that Sifuentes intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly caused bodily injury to an intimate partner and appeared in a public place while under the influence of alcohol to a degree that posed a danger to herself or others.
Sifuentes was charged with one count of simple assault pursuant to domestic violence and one count of public drunkenness. Further court proceedings are pending in Pottsville.
