
A Pottsville man is facing multiple charges after an alleged assault on a police officer during a domestic-related incident early Thursday morning in the city.
According to Pottsville Police, officers were dispatched on January 15, 2025, at approximately 2:10 a.m. to a residence in the 1700 block of West Market Street for a report of a female who had locked herself inside a bathroom due to concerns for her safety and the safety of her children. Police said the woman reported that her significant other was highly intoxicated and acting out of control.
Upon arrival, a Pottsville Police corporal made contact with the caller and her children and was able to safely remove them from the residence.
Police state that during the incident, Isaiah Samuels, 29, of Pottsville, rushed through the front door in an aggressive manner and punched the officer in the right side of the face with a closed fist. Officers deployed a Taser to subdue Samuels, and he was taken into custody without further incident with the assistance of additional responding officers.
Samuels has been charged with one count of aggravated assault, one count of simple assault, and one count of harassment.
At the time of the report, Samuels was awaiting arraignment before District Justice Reiley.
