Shenandoah Man Arrested on Animal Cruelty Charges After Dogs Found Malnourished

A Shenandoah man was arrested earlier this month after Pennsylvania State Police say three dogs were found abandoned and severely underfed at a borough residence.
According to the Pennsylvania State Police at Frackville, troopers responded to 5 South White Street in Shenandoah on February 5, 2026, around 12:25 p.m. for a report of abandoned dogs.

Following an investigation, police determined that three dogs had been left in the care of Christopher Slater, 45, of Shenandoah.

Troopers reported that the dogs were not provided an appropriate amount of food, causing them to lose a substantial amount of weight to levels considered below healthy standards.

The dogs were surrendered to the Hillside SPCA, where they are now receiving care.

Slater was arrested and charged with Neglect of Animals.
