Three Charged After Child Welfare Investigation at Schuylkill County Home

A Girardville man is facing felony and misdemeanor charges after Pennsylvania State Police say a child was assaulted and hidden from troopers during a welfare check.
Troopers from the Pennsylvania State Police Frackville barracks were dispatched around 3:00 p.m. on January 10, 2026, to a home on B Street in Girardville Borough for a reported child welfare concern.

According to court documents, a relative contacted authorities after receiving a message alleging a child staying at the residence had visible bruising and may have been abused.

Welfare Check at Home

When troopers arrived, they spoke with family members inside the residence. Police said three children were located upstairs and appeared to have no visible injuries at that time.

The children’s mother was contacted by phone and initially indicated the children could remain at the residence temporarily. Troopers cleared the scene and returned to the barracks.

However, police said the investigation took a turn when the mother later contacted authorities again and reported that a fourth child had been concealed in the basement during the welfare check and had visible injuries.

Alleged Assault Reported

Troopers later made contact with the family in Reading, where the child reportedly showed bruising to the face and back.

According to investigators, the child stated that Alexander Medina-Salome, 37, allegedly slapped the child multiple times after an incident inside a bedroom. Police also allege the child was instructed to hide in the basement while troopers were present so the injuries would not be discovered.

Charges Filed

Medina-Salome, of Girardville, has been charged with:

  • Endangering the Welfare of Children (F3)
  • Recklessly Endangering Another Person (M2)
  • Simple Assault (M2)
  • Harassment (summary)

Two others were also charged in connection with the incident:

  • Obstructing Administration of Law (M2)
  • Disorderly Conduct (summary)

Jonathan Xavier Perez, 35, of Girardville

Police allege the pair interfered with troopers during the investigation and assisted in concealing the child.
