A pair of Tremont men are facing charges following an early morning incident earlier this month that began with a report of a vehicle striking a parked car and ended with both accused of driving under the influence.
According to affidavits filed by Minersville Police, officers were called around 2:49 a.m. on Sunday, March 1, 2026, after a homeowner in the 100 block of East Laurel Street reported that home security cameras had captured two men attempting to back their vehicle down the street and striking a parked car.
When police arrived, they found a gray 2004 Ford Taurus parked in the middle of the roadway with the ignition on. Police identified Ray Santos, 37, of Tremont, in the driver’s seat and Javon Thomas, 26, of Tremont, outside the vehicle.
Officers also observed a white Nissan Altima parked nearby with damage to the driver’s side mirror. Police later learned there was no valid insurance on the Ford Taurus, which was registered to Thomas.
According to court documents, police first made contact with Santos and observed signs of impairment, including a strong odor of alcohol, glossy eyes, and slurred speech. Officers requested that Santos perform field sobriety tests, but police said he refused to complete them. Santos was then placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. A check of his Pennsylvania driver’s license also allegedly showed it was suspended.
Police said Santos was transported to Lehigh Valley East for a blood draw. He was later charged with DUI - Highest Rate of Alcohol (.16 or greater), DUI - Incapable of Safe Driving, Driving While Operating Privilege Suspended or Revoked, and Required Financial Responsibility.
After returning to the station, officers reviewed the homeowner’s surveillance footage and said they were able to positively identify Thomas operating the Ford Taurus. Police said the video showed Thomas reversing the vehicle down East Laurel Street and striking the driver’s side mirror of the unattended Nissan Altima.
While speaking with Thomas, officers said they also noticed signs of impairment, including a strong odor of alcohol, glossy eyes, and slurred speech. He was asked to perform field sobriety tests, which police said indicated impairment. Thomas was advised to leave the vehicle parked and find another ride home.
Thomas was later charged with DUI - Incapable of Safe Driving, Accidents Involving Damage to Unattended Vehicle or Property, and Required Financial Responsibility.
