According to Richland County Coroner Naida Rutherford, the victims were identified as Mark McCormick, 62, of Orwigsburg, Pennsylvania, and William Vazquez-Hernandez, 26, of Lexington, South Carolina.
According to a story posted to WACH.com on April 6th, 2026, the crash occurred around 4:07 a.m. in the northbound lanes of I-77 near the 10-mile marker. Authorities say a Toyota SUV was traveling north when it collided with a Chevrolet pickup truck that was traveling south in the northbound lanes.
Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene as a result of their injuries.
The Richland County Coroner’s Office is continuing to work alongside the South Carolina Highway Patrol as the investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
No additional information has been released at this time.
