Schuylkill County Drug Task Force Arrests Pottsville Man on Drug, Gun Charges


A Schuylkill County man is facing multiple felony drug and firearms charges after investigators say a search of his Pottsville residence uncovered methamphetamine, fentanyl, and other illegal substances along with loaded rifles.
According to the Schuylkill County District Attorney’s Office, the Schuylkill County Drug Task Force and the Pennsylvania State Police Troop L Vice/Narcotics Unit began investigating alleged narcotics distribution activities involving Justin Martin Matthews, 46, during May 2026.

Investigators obtained a court-authorized search warrant on May 26, 2026, for Matthews’ residence at 216 Line Street in the City of Pottsville.

Authorities said the warrant was executed on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, by members of the Drug Task Force and Pennsylvania State Police. Matthews was detained as he exited the residence, and the home was secured without incident.

During the search, investigators reportedly seized quantities of methamphetamine, fentanyl, marijuana, Buprenorphine Naloxone films, psilocybin mushrooms, and drug paraphernalia. Police also reported locating two loaded semi-automatic rifles inside the residence.

Matthews was charged with two counts of Possession With Intent to Deliver involving methamphetamine and fentanyl, five counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance, one count of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and one count of Persons Not to Possess, Use, Manufacture, Control, Sell or Transfer Firearms.

Matthews was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge James K. Reiley in Pottsville. Bail was set at $100,000, which he was unable to post. He was remanded to Schuylkill County Prison pending further court proceedings.
