The first incident occurred shortly after 1 a.m. on Saturday, June 20, when officers were dispatched to a residence in the 1800 Block of First Avenue for a report of a domestic disturbance in progress.
According to court documents, officers knocked on the front door and immediately heard banging and other commotion coming from inside the home. Police eventually made contact with a 33-year-old woman and her boyfriend, Vincent Angelo, 27.
Police reported that Angelo had an odor of alcohol on his breath and told officers the couple had been arguing. The woman told police she had locked herself in a bedroom while calling 911 in an attempt to separate herself from Angelo. Investigators said Angelo allegedly forced his way through the bedroom door and struck her in the upper chest.
Officers observed redness and injuries to the victim's lower neck and upper chest area, according to the report.
Angelo was taken into custody under Pennsylvania's domestic violence arrest statute and charged with simple assault, a second-degree misdemeanor, and summary harassment.
He was arraigned before on-call Magisterial District Judge David J. Rossi and released after bail was set at $10,000 unsecured.
On Saturday evening, at approximately 7:11 p.m., officers responded to a residence on South Ninth Street for a reported domestic disturbance involving a baseball bat. Schuylkill County Communications advised officers that a 36-year-old man was actively being assaulted and that a bat was involved.
Upon arrival, police made contact with the man, as well as Brittany Reese, 35. Officers observed that the man had a bloody mouth and large red marks on his back that appeared consistent with being struck by an object. Police also noted that Reese had an injury near her left eyebrow.
According to investigators, the man told police the altercation began while he was in the bathroom when Reese entered holding a baseball bat and confronted him about money allegedly leaving her bank account. He told police that Reese first struck him with the butt end of the bat and then swung it at him several times.
During the struggle, the man admitted that he punched Reese in the face before attempting to distance himself and call 911. He told police that Reese then struck him several more times in the back with the bat.
The victim also alleged that while he was speaking with emergency dispatchers, Reese placed her fingers inside his mouth in an attempt to prevent him from communicating with authorities, causing injuries and bleeding to his mouth. Police said they observed injuries consistent with his account.
Reese was subsequently charged with Simple Assault (Misdemeanor 2), and Harassment (Summary) in connection with the incident.
