According to court documents filed by Pennsylvania State Police at Frackville, Shane Eugene Mowrer, 54, of Camp Hill, was charged on Monday, July 6, 2026, in connection with the robbery that occurred on August 28, 2023, at the Sheppton Mini Mart, located at 974 Center Street in East Union Township.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, troopers were called to the store around 9:30 p.m. for a reported armed robbery. Investigators say a man entered the store through the back door wearing a black ski mask, black long-sleeve shirt, black sweatpants, black sneakers, and gloves.
Police said the suspect was armed with a small black handgun and confronted two employees, Navnit Patel and Mina Patel.
According to investigators, the suspect pointed the firearm at the employees and demanded money from the cash register and lottery machine. The man allegedly ordered both employees into a beer cooler before leaving the business.
Police said approximately $600 in cash and about $100 in lottery money were stolen.
During the investigation, surveillance video showed the suspect walking through the parking lot of a nearby motel shortly after the robbery. Troopers later searched the area along State Route 924 and recovered a black and gray glove approximately 200 yards north of the store that appeared similar to the glove worn during the robbery.
The glove was submitted to the Pennsylvania State Police Crime Laboratory for DNA testing.
According to court documents, forensic testing later determined DNA from the glove matched a DNA profile obtained from Mowrer. Investigators reported the probability of randomly selecting an unrelated individual with the same DNA profile was approximately 1 in 230 octillion from the Caucasian population.
In August 2024, troopers interviewed Mowrer while he was incarcerated at the Montour County Prison on unrelated charges. Police said Mowrer denied involvement in the robbery and denied owning any firearms.
A search warrant was later obtained for Mowrer’s DNA. A comparison completed in December 2024 confirmed the DNA match, according to investigators.
On June 9, 2026, investigators interviewed Mowrer at SCI Camp Hill. According to police, after being advised of his rights, Mowrer acknowledged he had previously spoken with investigators about the robbery but declined to continue the interview.
Mowrer has been charged with:
- Felony Criminal Attempt – Robbery (Threatening Immediate Serious Injury)
- Felony Criminal Attempt – Terroristic Threats
- Receiving Stolen Property
- Criminal Attempt – Possession of an Instrument of Crime
- Criminal Attempt – Theft by Unlawful Taking
- Criminal Attempt – False Imprisonment
- Criminal Attempt – Simple Assault
- Criminal Attempt – Recklessly Endangering Another Person
- Criminal Trespass
A preliminary arraignment before Magisterial District Judge Anthony J. Kilker is scheduled for July 13, 2026, at 9:30 a.m.
