According to Minersville Police Chief Jeffrey Bowers, Minersville Police and Minersville Code Enforcement served a search warrant at a home at 232 Twin Street, where they discovered 71 cats inside the residence.
The homeowner was identified by police as Timothy Barnes.
Bowers said Barnes had been living in conditions that included floors, walls and furniture soaked with cat urine and feces.
Authorities called in several organizations to assist with removing the animals from the home.
With assistance from volunteers from River Run Veterinary Hospital, Forever Home Animal Rescue, the Ruth Steinert Memorial SPCA and a Humane Society Police Officer, all 71 cats were safely removed from the residence and transported to River Run Veterinary Hospital.
Following the discovery, the Twin Street home was condemned because of what officials described as extreme health risks. Occupancy of the residence has been prohibited.
Bowers said Barnes is expected to face charges from both Minersville Borough and Humane Society Police in connection with the conditions discovered at the property.
Specific charges were not immediately provided.
The investigation remains ongoing.
