Hundreds Turn Out for Ashland Community Night Out

Hundreds of people filled Walnut Street Tuesday evening as Ashland Community Night Out returned for another year, bringing residents, local organizations, businesses and first responders together for an evening of activities and community outreach.
This year's event looked a little different from previous years. After being postponed last week, organizers moved Community Night Out from Memorial Field to Walnut Street, where dozens of community groups and businesses set up displays and activities throughout the evening.

The change in location didn't stop the community from turning out, with hundreds of residents making their way through the event.

Among the participating organizations were the Ashland Elks, who continued their focus on community safety by handing out free carbon monoxide detectors to residents.

Crossfire Youth Ministries provided a bounce house for the event.

Food was also a major part of Tuesday's festivities. May's Drive In and Mrs. T's Pierogies provided food for those in attendance, which was served from the Schuylkill Technology Center's food truck.  Bottles of the event were provided by Steve Shannon Tire.

Mrs. T's also brought along a familiar face, with the Pierogy Man making an appearance and greeting families during the event.

Throughout the evening, residents had an opportunity to visit with the dozens of organizations and businesses participating, learn more about services available in the community and spend time with neighbors.

Organizers said they were grateful for the turnout, particularly after having to adjust plans following last week's postponement.

"After having to postpone Community Night Out last week and then move the event from Memorial Field to Walnut Street, we couldn't have asked for a better response from the community," the Ashland Community Night Out Committee said. "Seeing hundreds of people come out and support the organizations, businesses and volunteers who make Ashland a great community made all of the work worthwhile. We want to thank everyone who participated, helped make the event possible and came out to spend the evening with us."

The event has continued to grow since its launch, with Tuesday's turnout building on the more than 300 residents.
