Two Women Face Strangulation Charges Following Mahanoy City Domestic Dispute

Two women are facing charges after police say a domestic dispute in Mahanoy City turned physical Tuesday afternoon, with both women accused of choking one another.
According to court documents filed by Mahanoy City Police, officers were dispatched around 2:47 p.m. on August 18, 2026, to a residence in the 600 block of E. Centre Street for a reported physical domestic dispute.

Police said Schuylkill County 911 had received calls from both parties involved.

When police arrived, they found Bridget Reyes outside the residence on the sidewalk, visibly upset and crying.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, Reyes told police that an argument had begun over her having to watch Rachelle Marchetti's children.

Reyes told investigators that she was in an upstairs bedroom looking for her shoes when Marchetti entered the room and allegedly shoved her. Reyes said she shoved Marchetti back, and the confrontation moved into the hallway.

Reyes alleged that Marchetti then placed both hands around her neck and choked her for approximately six minutes while threatening to kill her. Reyes told police she was eventually able to break free, leave the residence and call 911.

Police then spoke with Marchetti inside the residence.

According to the affidavit, Marchetti told investigators that Reyes had been upstairs throwing items around and making noise. Marchetti alleged that when she entered the room, Reyes grabbed her by the neck and choked her. Marchetti admitted to police that she then choked Reyes in return.

Police said both women were taken into custody following the incident. Court documents state that the two had been dating on and off for approximately two years and had a history of previous domestic incidents.

Marchetti, 28, of Mahanoy City, was charged with misdemeanor counts of strangulation, simple assault and terroristic threats.

Reyes, 24, from Drums, was charged with misdemeanor counts of strangulation and simple assault.

Both were arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Anthony J. Kilker.

Marchetti's bail was set at $25,000, while Reyes' bail was set at $15,000. Court records indicate both were committed to Schuylkill County Prison after being unable to post bail.

Preliminary hearings for both women are scheduled for August 27 before Judge Kilker.
