Butler Township Donates Five Surplus Tasers to Schuylkill County Sheriff’s Office

Butler Township donates five surplus Tasers to the Schuylkill County Sheriff's Office

BUTLER TOWNSHIP — Butler Township is donating five surplus Tasers to the Schuylkill County Sheriff’s Office, helping equip deputies who currently do not have the devices.

Butler Township Police Chief Chris Hand said the Tasers were no longer being used by his department, prompting officials to make them available to another law enforcement agency in Schuylkill County.

“We're donating five of them to the sheriff's office. Just basically sit here and collect dust from us. So, might as well give them to somebody that can use them,” Hand said.

Donation Provides Deputies With Less-Lethal Option

Schuylkill County Sheriff Shawn Butler said the donation will address an equipment need within his office while providing deputies with an additional less-lethal option.

“We actually currently have staff that doesn't have the Tasers, and to have that less-lethal option is definitely beneficial for both the public and for my deputies,” Butler said.

Partnership Supports County Law Enforcement

Butler thanked the township for its generosity and continued support, emphasizing the importance of cooperation among law enforcement agencies throughout Schuylkill County.

“I mean, the partnerships that we have here in this county go a long way, especially in times like this where somebody has a surplus and will help us out,” Butler said.
