Three Killed, One Injured in Two Vehicle Crash near Tamaqua

Three people were killed in a two car crash in Walker Township late Tuesday.

According to the Pennsylvania State Police at Frackville, the crash occurred around 9:30pm at the intersection of Route 209 and Mining Road.

Police say the crash occurred when the driver of  Dodge Ram attempted to make a left turn from Mining Road onto Route 209.  A Volkwagen was travelling north on Route 209 at the same time.  The Volkwagen attempted to avoid a collision but struck front end to the drivers side door of the Dodge Ram.

Upon impact, the Dodge Ram became airborne and was thrown over the guide rail.  The truck struck several trees and came to a final rest on its passenger side in a wooded area.

The driver of the Dodge Ram, Driver of the Volkwagen, and passenger in the Volkswagen were all pronounced dead at the scene by Schuylkill County Deputy Coroner Deb Detweiler.

A passenger in the Dodge Ram was transported via a Lehigh Valley Helicopter to Lehigh Valley Cedar Crest for their injuries.

A Pennsylvania State Police Forensics and CARS unit assisted at the scene.
