Winterfest Draws Crowd to Pottsville

The first ever "Winterfest" in Pottsville drew large crowds to Pottsville on Saturday.

The event, which kicked off the 2019 Winter Carnival, included fun, food, and music and highlighted the local businesses of the Schuylkill County community.

Pottsville Winterfest is part of the Pottsville Continued Progress Project, a PADCO initiative. PADCO is the city’s economic development agency and works to instill vibrancy to the downtown business community and improve quality of life for its residents.

Winterfest took place on South 2nd Street between West Market Street and Mahantongo Street.

Live music was provided by Toolshed Jack at the Good Intent Fire Company, along with other entertainment from the Spotlight Kidz, and a dance performance from the Crimson Academy.

The event also included numerous food and craft vendors and a Yuengling Beer Garden.

A snowman building contest was also held.  Due to the lack of snow this winter, organizers worked with Blue Mountain Ski Resort, Palmerton, and hauled in two truck loads of snow for the event.

Ice skating was also scheduled to take place in the Towne Drugs parking lot but due the unseasonbly warm weather earlier in the week, it was cancelled.

By the event's end, thousands had attended, and proved that the developing economy in Pottsville is growing.  Organizers say many more events like Winterfest are planned for the future.
