New Executive Director of the Pottsville Parking Authority Issues Open Letter to the Community

The following is an open letter that Ian Lipton, the new Executive Director of the Pottsville Parking Authority, has issued to the public.

Mayor Muldowney and Pottsville City Council asked me to manage the Pottsville Parking Authority effective immediately and I’ve accepted the challenge.

For those of you who don’t know me, I am a life long resident of Pottsville and ran Nathan’s Furniture for 50 years. I successfully closed 5 stores between 2010 and 2017. My company operated for 90 years, with its home base in Pottsville. Without a fourth generation to lead, I closed the company and retired.

I am the current chairman of the Greater Pottsville Sewer Authority as well as of the Pottsville Redevelopment Authority, a 35 year member of the latter. Additionally, I serve as an executive officer on the board of the Pottsville Area Development Corporation (PADCO). I am a proud founding member of Lasting Legacy for Pottsville. In 2016, I left the board of Schuylkill Economic Development Corporation (SEDCO) after 25 years of membership. Previously, I served as past chairman of the Pottsville Bicentennial. What this resume means to you is that my entire adult life I have strived to improve our City and its livability. I am asking you to contact me with feedback through email at or call me Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday between 9 AM and 4 PM at (570) 628-9184 to make an appointment to talk with me in person at 1 South 2nd St, Pottsville, 2nd floor.

The Parking Authority made changes and decisions the past year and may not have communicated the reasons for those decisions or clarified their goals and objectives effectively. This has caused you to feel the Pottsville Parking Authority is not working in your best interest. With your help and some patience we can change for the better. I’ll work hard with you. We can do better and we, you and I, can and will be successful in finding solutions best for our community. Under my leadership, the board and I will have only one goal: to serve you.

Ian Lipton
