Man Responsible for Window Smashing Spree Near Pottsville Involved in Attempted Carjacking

State Police have released additional information on a man wanted for a window smashing spree near Pottsville and how he was also involved in an attempted carjacking in Cressona.

According to the State Police at Schuylkill Haven, Ryan Tomczyk, 35, of Old Forge was taken into custody after an attempted carjacking on North Sillyman Street in Cressona on Tuesday, December 14th, 2021.

Police say during the incident, Tomczyk approached a 63 year old Schuylkill Haven man for a ride. The man told Tomczyk he couldn't provide a ride, and as he walked away, Tomczyk struck the victim in the head and took his car keys.

Tomczyk attempted to flee in the victim's Toyota Sienna, but the man was able to retrieve his keys from the ignition and get away.

The suspect fled on foot where he was later arrested walking along the Gordon Nagle Trail.

Tomczyk was also wanted for an incident that day, around 6:00am, when he entered the parking lot of Green Valley Skilled Nursing on Matthew Lane just off the Gordon Nagle Trail near Pottsville.

Police say Tomczyk smashed the windows of 7 vehicles in the parking lot with rock and threw a rock through the main entrance of the nursing facility before fleeing.

Tomcyzyk was charged with numerous counts of Criminal Mischief and Disorderly conduct for the window smashing for the window smashing incident.

He also faces charges of robbery, theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, and harassment for the attempted carjacking.

He remains locked up in Schuylkill County Prison.
