State Police Investigating Fatal Hit and Run Along Interstate 81 near Hazleton

The Pennsylvania State Police are investigating a fatal hit and run along Interstate 81 in Luzerne County late Friday.

According to Troopers, the incident occurred around 11:00pm, Friday on the Interstate 81 Southbound Exit Ramp at mile marker 151 in Butler Township.

Police were originally dispatched for a person laying on the roadway.

When Troopers arrived, they found that a 24 year old male, identified as Dionys Ramirez Moya, 24, of Hazleton, had been struck by a vehicle that fled from the scene.  Moya was pronounced dead at the scene.

Evidence at the scene indicated that the victim had been struck by a semi truck and trailer.  Evidence gathered by police also gathered that the vehicle traveled onto Interstate 80 westbound after the crash occurred.

The Interstate 81 Exit Ramp was closed until about 5:10am while the scene was cleared and investigated.
