State Police Release Identities of 6 Victims of Fatal Interstate 81 Pile Up in Schuylkill County

The Pennsylvania State Police at Frackville have released the identities of the 6 victims that died in the Interstate 81 Pile up in Schuylkill County on March 28th, 2022.

Positive identity of the victims were made by the Schuylkill County Coroner's Office through DNA.

State Police say the next of kin has been notified of the following victims:

  • Terry Stull, 56, of Lexington, Massachusetts
  • Douglas Teeter, 57, of Lexington, Massachusetts
  • Rita Matos, 40, of Carlisle, Pennsylvania
  • Edward Ramos, 43, of Carlisle, Pennsylvania
  • William Douglas, 69, of Pine Grove, West Virginia
  • Domingo Diaz, 66, of Brooklyn, New York

The crash occurred on the morning of Monday, March 28th, 2022 around 10:36am, in the northbound lanes of Interstate 81 at mile marker 116 in Foster Township during an active snow squall.  The crash involve 39 Commercial Vehicles and 41 Passenger Vehicles.

A total of 24 people were injured in the crash and transported to four different hospitals.

Those injured that were able to self extricate themselves from their vehicles were taken by Schuylkill Transportation Services buses to Wegman's Distribution Center where they were triaged.

If they did not need medical attention, they were taken to a reunification center at the Goodwill Fire Company in Minersville.

Interstate 81 northbound had remained closed until 12:30am, Wednesday morning, March 30th, 2022.
