Pottsville Police Find Parents of Boy Wandering City Streets in Middle of the Night

Pottsville parents are facing child endangerment charges after their son was found wandering the streets of the city early Wednesday morning.

According to Pottsville Police Chief Richard Wojciechowsky, On Wednesday, September 26th, 2022 around 1:30am, a 5-year-old boy was found in the 400 block of West Race Street wearing only a diaper, with his hands, feet and face covered in dirt. 

Police were able to locate the parents, Erin Kelly Laux, 36, and Marlin Weyant, 42, at their home at 322 W. Race Street. Inside the home two additional children, ages 4 and 10, were found unsupervised.

During the course of the investigation officers found the living conditions of the home in extremely poor and hazardous condition for children. 

Officers took emergency custody of the children and Schuylkill County Children & Youth workers assisted in relocating the children. 

Additionally, city Code Enforcement officers were dispatched to the scene for inspections and follow-up investigation. The property was subsequently posted as condemned due to the unfit conditions. Police facilitated assistance options that were provided to Laux and Weyant.

Based on the results of the investigation Ptl. Anna Flail completed a criminal complaint charging Laux and Weyant with 3 counts of Endangering the Welfare of Children.
