Schuylkill County Man in Custody on Attempted Homicide Charges; Two Flown with Gunshot Wounds


A suspect is in custody and two people were flown with gunshot wounds early Sunday after an incident in Wayne Township.

According to the Pennsylvania State Police at Schuylkill Haven, on Sunday morning, just before 1:00am. Troopers responded to 101 Ridge Rd., Wayne Township, for an active domestic between father and son.

While Troopers were responding more information was received from Schuylkill County Radio that it is now being reported that there are 2 victims at the scene who sustained gunshot wounds during the incident. 

Troopers from PSP Hamburg and PSP Jonestown then responded to the scene as well. 

Upon arriving on scene, the Troopers from Schuylkill Haven were able to immediately locate the suspect, identified as Aaron Hopkins, 24, of Wayne Twp, and take him into custody without incident. 

The Troopers then began to render medical aid to the gunshot victims. 

The firearm utilized during the incident is suspected to be a long rifle was located and secured at the scene. 

One Victim, a 52-year-old female, was life flighted to Lehigh Valley Hospital (Cedar Crest) for medical treatment of a gunshot wound to her arm, and the second Victim, 52-year-old male, was life flighted to the Reading Hospital for medical treatment of a gunshot wound to his abdomen. 

Trooper Anthony Urban, of the PSP Schuylkill Haven Criminal Investigation Unit, filed charges of Attempted Homicide against Aaron HOPKINS relative to this incident. 

He was arraigned by on-call Magisterial District Justice Edward Tarantelli and was unable to post bail. Hopkins was committed to Schuylkill County prison. This investigation is still on-going.  Details on arraignment were not available.
