Shenandoah Man Arrested for Altercation Involving Knife in Pottsville


A Shenandoah man is locked up in Schuylkill County Prison for an altercation involving a knife in Pottsville.
According to Pottsville Police, on Sunday April 2, 2023, around 12:30am, Police were dispatched to the area of North 18th St and W Market St for a fight between 2 males.

Upon police arrival, the victim, a 24-year-old Pottsville man, was found in the 1700 block of West Market Street bleeding profusely from a large laceration on his left forearm. EMS was immediately contacted for the injury, and he was transported to the Lehigh Valley Health Network East.

The victim told police he got into an altercation with someone, but did not who. He stated the person had a knife and came out of an unknown house on West Market Street to attack him.

A blood trail was traced to the area of the 1800 block of West Market Street where it was believed the incident occurred, and were able to identify Daniel Rivera, 51, of Shenandoah, as the perpetrator.

Officers made contact with Rivera, who reported that he emerged from a residence in the area when he saw the victim arguing with his girlfriend. The victim and Rivera exchanged words before the victim approached and struck Rivera in the face causing Rivera to push the victim to the ground in defense.

Rivera stated that the victim got back onto his feet and approached Rivera again, and Rivera said he defended himself, but would not elaborate how.

The victim suffered a severe laceration and had to be life-flighted to Lehigh Valley Hospital Cedar Crest for his injury. 

Rivera was taken into custody and charged by Patrolman Timothy Youse with Felony Aggravated Assault, Misdemeanor Simple Assault, and summary harassment.

Rivera was arraigned in before on-call Magisterial District Judge Anthony Kilker, and committed to Schuylkill County Prison on $25,000 straight cash bail.
