Pottsville Teen Charged After Gun Accidently Discharges Firing into Home Next Door


A Pottsville teen is facing charges after a gun accidently discharged and fired a shot into a home next door.

According to Pottsville Police, on Sunday, May 21, 2023, around 9:15am, Pottsville Police were dispatched to the 800 block of Vine Street for a report of "Shots Fired."

It was reported a shot was fired through the wall of a residence in the 800 block of Vine Street. 

A search of the residence was completed which confirmed a circular hole which was consistent with a bullet hole was located in the basement bedroom. It was determined the bullet came from and attached home on Vine Street. 

After the bullet entered the bedroom it struck a metal bedframe, traveled across the room, went through a closet door, through a wash basket, and lodged into the baseboard. At the time, just missing a female resident in the home. The bullet struck the bed within approximately four inches of the female.

Through further investigation it was determined a 17-year-old juvenile was manipulating a rifle and accidentally discharged it.

Through a consent to search of the residence, 3 long guns and miscellaneous ammo were discovered.

The weapons were identified as a black Remington Model 700 30-06 rifle, a Remington Model 870 20-gauge shotgun, and a Richland Arms 12-gauge shotgun.

During the interview with the juvenile, it was learned that the 3 guns were brought to his residence on May 20, 2023 by a friend and he was told they were stolen.

Through investigation, it was learned that all 3 guns and ammunition were recently reported stolen by Minersville Police. Photos were sent to Minersville Police who confirmed the guns were in fact the ones they were trying to locate.

Pottsville Ptlm. Flail completed a Juvenile Allegation charging the 17-year-old juvenile with 1 count, Receiving Stolen Property (F2), 1 count, Recklessly Endangering, (M2), 1 count, Discharge of Firearm into Occupied Structure, (F3), 1 count, Simple Assault, (M2), 1 one count, Criminal Mischief, (M3).



The Schuylkill County Juvenile Department was contacted and took custody of the juvenile.
