One person was transported to the hospital, and another person was cited after a crash in Pottsville last week.
The accident investigation determined David Murphy Jr, 34, of Orwigsburg, was traveling northbound on Claude A Lord Blvd (Route 61) in the left lane approaching the intersection of Mauch Chunk Street (Route 209). Murphy failed to stop for a red signal and struck a Chevrolet Cruze driven by an 81 y/o Port Carbon woman who was traveling west through the intersection on Mauch Chunk St.
The impact caused severe damage to the Chevrolet Cruze which resulted in the driver needing to be extricated from the vehicle by the Pottsville Fire Department. The driver was transported by Pottsville EMS to Lehigh Valley for minor injuries.
As a result of the investigation, Murphy was cited for failing to obey traffic control signal and driving while operating privilege is suspended.
