Two Injured in Crash on Route 209 near New Philadelphia

Two people were injured in a crash on Route 209 between Cumbola and New Philadelphia on Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Pennsylvania State Police at Frackville, the crash occurred just after 2:00pm, on Route 209 in Blythe Township approximately a 1/2 mile west of the intersection with Kimber Street in New Philadelphia.

Troopers say Jean Riotto, 76, of Port Carbon was traveling east on Route 209 in her Subaru Forester when for unknown reasons, crossed into oncoming traffic and struck Hope McManus, 36, of Hazleton in a Dodge Caliber, heading west.

Riotto's vehicle rolled an unknown number of times after the impact and McManus vehicle came to a stop on the grass shoulder.

Riotto was reported to have sustained serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital by Schuylkill EMS.

McManus sustained unknown injuries and refused being transported.

Both vehicles sustained heavy damage and were towed from the scene.

Route 209 was closed for a period of time while the scene was cleared.

Assisting at the scene along with State Police were the Cumbola Fire Department, New Philadelphia Fire Department, Schuylkill EMS, Hatter's Auto Body and Towing, and Northern Keystone Towing and Recovery.
