The Pennsylvania State Police at Troop L - Frackville Barrack are actively investigating a case of identity theft and financial fraud involving two suspects who targeted Hidden River Credit Union branches in Tamaqua and Orwigsburg last month.
According to authorities, the first incident occurred on May 7, 2025, when a male suspect entered the Hidden River Credit Union located on Mahanoy Avenue in Tamaqua. The suspect presented a fraudulent New Jersey driver's license bearing the identifiable information of the victim. However, due to providing incorrect account details, the individual was denied service and left the premises.
Twelve days later, on May 19, 2025, a female suspect entered another Hidden River Credit Union location, this one on West Market Street in Orwigsburg. She used a fraudulent New Jersey driver's license containing the identifiable information of the victim's wife. Authorities say she successfully cashed a fraudulent check for $2,800 and also withdrew $1,500 in U.S. currency from the victim’s account.
State Police have released surveillance images of both suspects in connection with the ongoing investigation.
