Man Threatened Woman, Assaulted Disabled Father, Resisted Arrest in Butler Township

A Montgomery County man is facing charges after police said he caused a violent disturbance at a Butler Township residence, assaulted his disabled father, and resisted arrest during an incident earlier this month.
According to court documents, Jonathan Thomas Harris, 36, with a last known address of Norristown, was charged with resisting arrest following the September 9, 2025 incident on Airport Road near Gordon.

Police were dispatched just before noon for a report of a disturbance involving a psychiatric subject. Callers reported Harris had smashed items inside the home, threatened a woman outside, and shoved a disabled man in a recliner.

A woman told officers that Harris came after her outside the home, threatening to kill her and smashing a front window from inside. Police said the victim’s uncle reported that his son shoved his chair toward a television, struck him in the head, and hit the back of his chair with a broom. EMS later evaluated the elder, who said he feared for his safety.

When officers entered the residence, they found Jonathan Harris pacing and agitated. Police said Harris pointed a broom at Butler Township Police before lowering it, but continued to refuse commands. He allegedly told officers, “I’m not going anywhere” and ordered them to “go home.”

As police attempted to take him into custody, Harris resisted, pulling his arms away and spitting on the officer. Officers from Ashland and Frackville assisted, and deployed a Taser to subdue Harris. He was then handcuffed and placed in a patrol vehicle.

Police said Harris had a small cut on his wrist from breaking the window. He was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital – East, where he underwent a psychiatric evaluation. A mental health delegate signed a 302 involuntary commitment order.

Court filings indicate a Protection From Abuse (PFA) order had recently been granted involving Harris. Police collected video evidence from the victim and documented injuries, including spit contact and a minor cut to the Butler Township Police Officer.

Harris will be arraigned at a later date on one misdemeanor charge of resisting arrest/other law enforcement (18 § 5104).
