Interstate 81 is closed in both the northbound and southbound lanes Friday evening after a serious crash that occurred around 5:45 PM and resulted in multiple victims, including one person who was reportedly ejected from a vehicle.
Emergency crews responded to the scene at mile marker 135 shortly after the incident was reported. Due to the severity of the crash, the Schuylkill County Coroner’s Office was requested for one victim, confirming at least one fatality.
As of 6:00 PM, both directions of Interstate 81 remain shut down between Delano and McAdoo while State Police, fire departments, EMS crews, and the coroner conduct their investigation and work to clear the scene.
Motorists are urged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes. Additional updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
