A crash early Friday morning in Fountain Springs left a family displaced after a vehicle crashed directly into their home, causing significant structural damage.
At approximately 1:51 a.m., emergency personnel were dispatched to 615 Fountain Street in Butler Township for a report of a motor vehicle accident with entrapment. According to authorities, the driver was able to extricate themselves from the vehicle prior to the arrival of emergency crews.
Police at the scene said a Ford Excursion traveling west on Fountain Street veered off the roadway, crossed through a yard — narrowly missing a utility pole — and struck the front left corner of the residence. The impact tore a large hole into the home and appeared to push the structure off its foundation.
The family was inside the home and sleeping at the time of the crash. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the occupants.
The driver of the vehicle was transported to the hospital with unspecified injuries.
Due to damage caused by the crash, PPL was called to shut off power to the residence after the electric meter was struck. Water service was also shut off after a water line inside the home was damaged.
The family was forced to leave the residence and is staying elsewhere for at least the night.
Fountain Street/Route 61 was closed in the area for approximately an hour and half until the scene was cleared.
Butler Township Police Department said the crash remains under investigation.
