According to Pottsville Police, officers were dispatched to the 300 block of Mahantongo Street around 12:39 a.m. on May 29, 2026, after Schuylkill County 911 received a complaint about two vehicles revving their engines with extremely loud exhaust systems.
The complaint was reportedly one of several recent reports involving loud exhausts, speeding, and aggressive driving along Mahantongo Street.
Police later observed a maroon Subaru Impreza and a gray Infiniti traveling east on Mahantongo Street at what investigators described as a high rate of speed. Traffic stops were subsequently conducted on both vehicles.
The Subaru was allegedly operated by Donivan Emeka Eddie Collazo, 19, of Pottsville, while the Infiniti was allegedly operated by Jonathan Rivera Hernandez, 20, of Pottsville.
As a result of the investigation, Hernandez was charged with one count of Recklessly Endangering Another Person, along with numerous summary traffic offenses, including reckless driving, careless driving, driving at an unsafe speed, operating a vehicle without proper registration, failure to stop at stop signs, racing on highways, and driving without a valid license.
Collazo was charged with one count of Recklessly Endangering Another Person and multiple summary violations, including reckless driving, careless driving, driving at an unsafe speed, failure to drive on the right side of the roadway, lighting violations, failure to stop at stop signs, and racing on highways.
Police said that later in the day, while following up on the investigation, they received information that Hernandez was hiding in a garage behind a Mahantongo Street residence. According to court documents, the property's owner had instructed Hernandez to leave the garage.
As a result of that incident, Hernandez was additionally charged with Defiant Trespass and Loitering and Prowling at Nighttime.
