Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Killed in Line-of-Duty Crash on Interstate 81 in Schuylkill County


A Pennsylvania State Police Trooper assigned to the Frackville station was killed Wednesday morning after being struck by a passing commercial vehicle while conducting a commercial vehicle safety inspection along Interstate 81 in Schuylkill County.
According to the Pennsylvania State Police, the incident occurred at approximately 7:00 a.m. on Interstate 81 South near Mile Marker 119 in Cass Township.

Police said the Trooper was inspecting a commercial motor vehicle when a passing commercial vehicle struck the Trooper. After the initial impact, the passing truck also collided with the commercial vehicle that was being inspected before catching fire.

The operator of the passing commercial vehicle was transported to a local hospital for treatment. No information on the driver's condition has been released.

The Trooper died from injuries sustained in the crash. Pennsylvania State Police said the Trooper's identity will be released at a later time, pending appropriate notifications.

As of Wednesday morning, Interstate 81 South remained closed while investigators processed the scene and continued their investigation into the fatal crash.
