According to court documents, Pottsville Police were dispatched to Discovery Park, 305 W. Market Street, around 7:36 p.m. on August 8 for a report of an unresponsive man who had been involved in a fight.
Police arrived and found the victim lying on his back on the ground. Police said the victim was awake but going in and out of consciousness and was unable to identify the person who had struck him.
A witness told police that the victim had been involved in a verbal altercation with a man before the man allegedly punched the victim in the face, causing him to fall to the ground. The alleged assailant then fled south on Third Street.
The victim was initially transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital–Schuylkill East in Pottsville for treatment.
Police said they later reviewed security camera footage that allegedly showed the victim in a verbal confrontation with Isaiah Edward Wiseley, 21, of Pottsville.
According to the affidavit, the confrontation became physical and Wiseley allegedly punched the victim twice in the face. Police said the second punch knocked the victim to the ground, causing the back of his head to strike the pavement.
Police allege that while the victim was unresponsive on the ground, Wiseley picked him up, moved him and dropped him, causing the victim's head to strike the pavement a second time.
The victim was later transferred to Lehigh Valley Hospital–Cedar Crest with what police described as a traumatic brain injury. According to the affidavit, police followed up with hospital staff, who reported that the victim had suffered a brain bleed.
While the victim was lying on the ground, police allege a woman later identified as Latanasia Hoffecker, 20, of Schuylkill Haven, went through the victim's wallet and cigarette pack. Police said Wiseley and Hoffecker left before officers arrived, and the victim's empty wallet was recovered at the scene.
The victim's family later told investigators that as much as $700 may have been missing from money he kept in his cigarette pack. Police said the victim subsequently confirmed that seven $100 bills were missing.
Wiseley was charged with felony aggravated assault, along with misdemeanor simple assault, disorderly conduct and harassment. Court records show the charges were filed on August 9 by Pottsville Police.
Hoffecker was charged with felony robbery and misdemeanor counts of theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property. As of this posting, he has not been taken into custody.
Court records show Hoffecker was arraigned on August 11 before Magisterial District Judge James Reiley, who set monetary bail at $50,000. She was committed to Schuylkill County Prison after being unable to post bail.
Hoffecker is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Monday, August 17, at 9:15 a.m. before Reiley.
