An Ashland man was jailed after police alleged that he pushed and punched a woman during a domestic disturbance Sunday night, leaving her with an arm injury that emergency medical personnel believed was a fracture.
Edward Christopher Ujueta, 29, of Ashland, is charged with misdemeanor simple assault and summary counts of harassment and disorderly conduct following the , incident.
Police Respond to Pine Street Home
According to an affidavit of probable cause filed by Ashland Borough Police, officers were dispatched at approximately 10:20 p.m. to a home in the 1200 block of Pine Street.
Schuylkill County Communications advised police that a caller, who sounded like a child, reported a domestic disturbance and said a man was going to beat up the caller’s mother.
Police said officers arrived and saw two children hanging out of a second-story window. Inside the residence, officers found a woman screaming at Ujueta and separated the two.
During questioning, Ujueta allegedly told police that he had discovered the woman was communicating with another man and that an argument followed. Police said Ujueta admitted pushing the woman and punching her in the arm.
An officer also reported detecting the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from Ujueta.
Police reported finding damage to the rear door of the residence, including a broken door and hinge, along with blood on the rear porch.
Woman Taken to Hospital With Arm Injury
The woman told police that Ujueta had gone through her cellphone, discovered messages with another man, threw the phone and began shoving her, according to the affidavit. She said she then ran inside the residence and locked the door.
The investigating officer reported seeing a lump and bruising on the woman’s left forearm. The woman allegedly said her fingers were numb and that she could barely move them.
Emergency medical services were called at approximately 10:38 p.m. After evaluating the woman, EMS transported her to Lehigh Valley Hospital for further treatment. According to police, emergency medical personnel believed her arm was broken.
Bail and Preliminary Hearing
Ujueta was taken into custody and transported to the Ashland Borough Police Department.
Court records show bail was set at $10,000 monetary at 10%. Ujueta was committed to Schuylkill County Prison after being unable to post bail.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. on , before Magisterial District Judge Edward Tarantelli.
The charges are allegations. Ujueta is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
