Roger Dean Boyd
Roger Dean Boyd, born in Cincinnati, Ohio, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on .
Roger was a graduate of Pottsville Area High School and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business logistics from Penn State University.
After graduating, he worked briefly for Park Jensen in Reading before accepting a management position with Boscov’s in Pottsville. Roger went on to spend 40 years with Boscov’s, where his coworkers became friends and extended family. During his career, he first served as manager of Audio and Appliances and later as manager of Furniture and Bedding.
Roger was an avid sports fan who enjoyed attending Philadelphia Phillies, Philadelphia Flyers and Penn State games. He also loved attending concerts and spending time with his lifelong friends, John Pogera, Kevin McMurtrie, Mike Hoffman, Dave Semerod, Kevin Toomey, Mike McGeever, Jim Gumbola, and Damien and Brent “Home Slice” Beach.
These friendships, shared experiences and countless memories brought Roger great happiness throughout his life.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Judy and Donald Boyd.
He is survived by his sister, Donna Boyd; sister-in-law, Shannon Brennan; niece, Samantha Brennan; nephews, Eli and Jude Brennan; stepmother, Janet Boyd; and friend, Lauren Councill.
A memorial service celebrating Roger’s life will be held at James H. Evans Funeral Home in Saint Clair at 6 p.m. on . Family and friends are invited to pay their respects from 5 to 6 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Roger’s memory to Hillside SPCA.

Gene A. Parrish Jr.

Gene A. Parrish Jr., 69, of Nesquehoning, passed away on , at St. Luke’s University Hospital in Bethlehem.
Born on September 20, 1957, in Coaldale, Gene was a son of the late Gene A. Parrish Sr. and Shirley Boyer Parrish. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Darlene P. McCarroll.
Surviving are his daughters, Kelsey Bugge and her husband, Brenden, and Jennifer L. Parrish; son, Jeffrey Parrish and his wife, Jennifer; brothers, David Parrish, Brian Parrish, Dennis Parrish, and John Parrish and his companion, Dennnis Heverly; sisters, Vicki Martin, Debbie Davison and Brenda Parrish; and grandchildren, Paige, Emma, Jocelyn, Janessa, Jameson and Rosalie. Many nieces and nephews also survive Gene.
Gene attended Tamaqua High School and served honorably in the United States Marines. He was a talented carpenter and a fan of WWE wrestling, NASCAR and the Miami Dolphins.
Gene was a proud grandfather. He volunteered for Paul’s House of Valor Foundation in Kunkletown, where he had resided for nine years.

Gene will be interred with military honors at Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville.

Susan M. DellaMonica, 59, of Pottsville, passed away on , at home surrounded by family.
Born in Pottsville on November 8, 1966, Sue was a daughter of the late Robert and Elizabeth Russell Cook.
She was preceded in death by her son, Mark A. DellaMonica Jr.; brother, Jimmy Cook; nephew, John Parry; and niece, Kerri Cook.
Married for 40 years, Sue was the beloved wife of Mark A. DellaMonica Sr.
She was a member of the Salvation Army in Pottsville, where she enjoyed participating in Women’s Bible Study and volunteering annually with the Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign.
Sue loved fishing with her family and often fed the squirrels, especially with her grandchildren and nephew Michael when they were younger. She also enjoyed making ceramics and participating in Home League with her church family.
She always cherished the time she spent vacationing at the beach with her family through the years.
In addition to her husband, Sue is survived by her daughter, Jacqueline DellaMonica and Billy, of Frackville; grandchildren, Starlet and Marcianna DellaMonica and Ava Schleicher; brother, Bob Cook, of Pottsville; and her beloved extended family, Tara, Michael, Brennan, Jade, Missy and Chris, Sydney, Chelsia, Arielle and Jack, Rob, Chloe, Crystal and Sharon.
A viewing will be held at the Salvation Army in Pottsville from noon to 1 p.m. on . A celebration of life funeral service will begin at 1 p.m.
Interment will be held privately.

Mary Carroll, 80, of Coaldale, passed away on , in Weatherly.
Born and raised in Coaldale, Mary was a daughter of the late James and Florence Kurtz Sharpe. She graduated from Coaldale High School and attended Sacred Heart School of Nursing, beginning a career devoted to caring for others.
Mary worked as a registered nurse for 35 years, including many years at Gnaden Huetten Hospital in Lehighton and Coaldale State Hospital. Throughout her career, she cared for countless patients and families in the communities she called home.
Mary enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She always put her family before herself despite her ailments. Even when hospitalized, her biggest concern was her family.
Mary also enjoyed monthly lunches with her former coworkers and sitting on the porch with her best friend and her dogs. She was a member of St. John XXIII Catholic Church in Tamaqua.
Mary is survived by her son, Kevin Carroll and his wife, Brianna, of Jim Thorpe; six grandchildren, Brendan, Charli, Owen, Mia, Beau and Darcy; and two nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her son, Brian Carroll, in 2022 and her sister, Ann Marie Robin.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on , at St. John XXIII Catholic Church, 307 Pine Street, Tamaqua. Interment in St. Jerome Catholic Cemetery will follow the Mass.
Family and friends may call at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass. Nursing honors will be rendered at 9:45 a.m.
