Yuengling's Ice Cream's 1 Millionth Quart is Auctioned Off

ORWIGSBURG, PA (May 8, 2015) — Over the last 10 days, Yuengling’s Ice Cream and the Children’s Cancer Recovery Foundation (CCRF) partnered to sell the ice cream company’s one millionth quart, along with a collector’s basket, to benefit CCRF.

Elysburg, PA – Knoebels Amusement Resort is happy to announce special events for the weekend of May 9 and 10. On Saturday, May 9, Knoebels is open from noon until 8:00 p.m. and will celebrate WVIA Family Day with special guest performances by PBS Kids talent. On Sunday, May 10, the park is open from noon until 7:00 p.m. In honor of Mother’s Day, there will be free corsages for moms visiting that day. Pay-one-price plans are being offered both days at a special, pre-season rate and can be purchased online.

The Shenandoah Valley School District announced that their teachers will be going on strike next week.

Three Arrested on Drug Charges in Girardville

Three were arrested in Girardville Tuesday on drug charges.

Wednesday, U.S. Representative Matt Cartwright announced that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has awarded an Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) to the Citizens Fire Company #1 of Tamaqua. The funds will be distributed via the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

Mahanoy City arrested 3 people Wednesday evening and now all three face drug charges.

UPDATE: Driver Identified in Fatal Crash

The driver has been identified from a fatal crash Wednesday afternoon.

A crash has turned fatal in Tremont Twp.

Emergency personnel were called to the intersection of Tremont Road and Camp Road in Tremont Twp. around 12:30pm.

Initial calls came in as a motor vehicle accident with entrapment and fire.

We have now learned that one person has died in the crash.

Route 125 was closed for a period of time after the crash.

We will update you as more information is available.

Pennsylvania State Police and PEMA Deployment to Maryland Will Be Begin Later This Week

The Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA) and the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) announced today that Maryland accepted its offer of resources to assist with the State of Emergency currently active in the City of Baltimore. Pennsylvania offered assistance in response to an Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC) request that was put out by Maryland this week.
