Tamaqua Area Middle School Spring Chorus Concert Scheduled

The Tamaqua Area Middle School Music Department will present its annual “Spring Choral Concert” on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at 7:30 p.m. in the Tamaqua Area Auditorium. The concert will feature performances by the middle school Sixth Grade Chorus, Seventh and Eighth Grade Chorus, and the 7th & 8th Grade Select Chorus.
The Sixth Grade Chorus will open the concert with “Amani Utupe” by Patsy Ford Simms. This song is an African piece of music that translates to “Give Us Peace, Give Us Courage.” They will then sing “How Far I’ll Go” one of the hits from last year’s Disney movie “Moana”. The last song by the sixth grade will be “Rockstar”. This pop song was made popular by the band A Great big World a few years ago.

The Seventh and Eighth Grade Chorus will begin the second set of the evening’s program with “Riptide” by Vance Joy. The concert continues with the chorus singing “Rhythm of Love” by the Plain White T’s. The Rachel Platten song “Stand By You” is next followed by the Green Day anthem “Good Riddance” (The Time of Your Life).

The middle school 7th & 8th Grade Select Chorus will close the program with a classic jazz standard “Take Five”. Made popular by pop singing sensation Andra Day, the chorus next sings their version of “Rise Up”. From the Broadway musical show “Wicked” the chorus will sing “For Good”. The concert will close with two very inspirational ballads, “Anyway” by Martina McBride and the stirring yet poignant selection “Music Speaks” by Andy Beck.

Accompanists for the middle school choirs are Antonetta Gerace, Faith Roberts and Maura Walker.

The middle school choirs are under the direction of John Buglio.

The concert is free and open to the public. Doors to the auditorium will open at 6:45pm.
