Nico Makuta Announces Candidacy for the 116th Legislative District

Nico R. Makuta, of McAdoo, is officially announcing his candidacy for the 116th Legislative District of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives

Makuta, a Republican, is a life-long resident of McAdoo and the son of Christian Makuta and Cheryl Garzio-Harmonosky.

After graduating from Hazleton Area High School, he attended and graduated from East Stroudsburg University, majoring in Interdisciplinary Studies with concentrations in Communications and History.

After college, began working as a production worker for Silberline Manufacturing in Hometown, PA. He was promoted to Production Supervisor, which has led his current role as Quality Assurance Supervisor.

"Through my time here, I truly understand the value that blue-collared workers provide for towns and how large of a role they play in the success of the community. I am dedicated to supporting and protecting these individuals." says Makuta.

Makuta said his late uncle, Greg Garzio, told him “If you have a passion for something then you can find peace.”

"I have a passion for our district, our history, and the outcome of our political elections. My family has resided in the Hazleton area since the mid-1890s. When they first came to America looking for job opportunities, they found freedom and most importantly, a town to call home. My family, as well as countless others, were pivotal in transitioning our area into an economic powerhouse through hard work and determination. In recent decades, we have seen an economic decline in our district. I am determined to reverse this trend. Today, many of our communities are suffering from low-wage employment, continuously growing property taxes, inadequate policing, and the loss of solidarity. I am seeking to be a part of the change required to halt these interferences in their path." Makuta said.

He also says "Previous generations have come to this area with hopes and dreams of a better and more rewarding way of life. We are the embodiment of those dreams and we are here because of their passion for their hometown. Today, I am announcing my candidacy for State Representative, continuing to fulfill the common goals of our previous generations. The dreams of past and present immigrants are what will drive us to the next chapter of our area. The chapter of prosperity, safety, and community within our district."

Makuta added "Help me in making our vision come true for the 116th Legislative District and for the excellence of future generations."

The new 116th Legislative District includes the Schuylkill County Municipalities of McAdoo, Ringtown, Sheppton, Oneida, Shenandoah, Mahanoy City, Mahanoy Township, Kline Township, North Union Township, Union Township, and East Union Township.

In Luzerne County, the new district includes the City of Hazleton, Hazle Township, and West Hazleton.
