Large Fire Destroys Commercial Building near Orwigsburg Early Saturday


Firefighters from Schuylkill County and Berks County responded to a large commercial fire early Saturday near Orwigsburg.

Emergency personnel were called to the blaze just before 4:30am when a dispatch was received to respond to 1020 Chestnut Road, in West Brunswick Township for an automatic fire alarm.

Police were the first on scene and reported a fully involved commercial building fire at Heim Construction.  The building is estimated at being almost 200 feet long.

The glow and the smoke from the multi-alarm fire could be seen for miles around as flames reached 20-30 feet in the air.

A multi-alarm tanker task force was also dispatched to transport water.

Early reports were there several vehicles inside building as well as plastic items.

Fire crews fought the fire defensively from the exterior for nearly 5 hours before being marked under control at 9:21am.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
