
A man was killed Sunday night in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 81 in Schuylkill County.
According to the Pennsylvania State Police at Frackville, the crash occurred around 8:34 p.m. on Interstate 81 northbound at mile marker 111.7 in Frailey Township.
Troopers said a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 pickup, driven by 61-year-old Scott J. McAlpine, of Jay, Maine, left the roadway on the left shoulder while traveling north. The truck went through the grass median before striking a grass and rock embankment. The vehicle then became airborne and landed beneath the twin bridges of State Route 25 (Shermans Mountain Road), coming to rest off the right shoulder of the roadway.
Emergency personnel from Donaldson Fire Department, Newtown Fire Department, Tremont Fire Department, Tremont EMS, and the Geisinger Paramedic Squad responded to the scene.
McAlpine was pronounced dead at the scene by the Schuylkill County Deputy Coroner Andrew J. Szczyglak at 9:30 p.m.
Motter’s Towing assisted with vehicle recovery. Early reports stated that the crash involved a truck and a motorcycle. Further investigation found that the truck was pulling a trailer with a motorcycle on it.
The investigation is being handled by the Pennsylvania State Police at Frackville.
