One person was injured Monday morning following an incident involving a disabled tractor trailer and a utility vehicle along Route 901 near Lavelle.
According to Butler Township Police, the incident occurred around 11:45 a.m. on Route 901 on the hill north of Lavelle. A tractor trailer had become disabled on the incline due to reported brake issues.
A utility vehicle from Falzone Towing Service responded to the scene and parked on the lower side of the tractor trailer while assisting. Police said a mechanical failure then caused the tractor trailer’s brakes to release, allowing the vehicle to roll downhill.
The tractor trailer struck the utility vehicle, pushing it off the roadway, before continuing a short distance down the hill and striking a guard rail on the opposite side of the road. Authorities noted the tractor trailer narrowly avoided going over a steep embankment.
Police said the drivers of both vehicles were not injured. However, a female passenger inside the tractor trailer was injured after jumping from the vehicle as it was rolling. The tractor trailer reportedly ran over her foot.
The injured passenger was transported by emergency medical services to a local hospital for treatment. No additional details on her condition were released.
Units from Lavelle, Englewood, and Ashland responded to the incident.
The incident remains under investigation by Butler Township Police.
