According to police, emergency personnel were dispatched around 7:38 a.m. Sunday, August 30, 2026, to the intersection of South Centre and Mahantongo streets for a reported motor vehicle accident.
Police said their investigation determined that a 2011 Toyota Camry was traveling east on Mahantongo Street toward South Centre Street when the vehicle failed to stop at the intersection.
The Camry continued across South Centre Street, traveled onto the sidewalk, struck a wall and then crashed into the Miners Hotel, the former Ramada hotel.
Police said the driver, a 79-year-old man from Minersville, apparently experienced a medical emergency prior to the crash.
The man was transported by Schuylkill EMS to Lehigh Valley Hospital–Schuylkill East Norwegian Street, where he was pronounced dead.
The Schuylkill County Coroner’s Office will perform a forensic autopsy.
The identity of the driver was not released in the information provided by police.
