Two More Verizon Wire Thefts Reported in Schuylkill County

Pennsylvania State Police investigate copper wire thefts in Schuylkill County

Pennsylvania State Police at Frackville are investigating two additional reported thefts of Verizon copper wiring in Schuylkill County following several similar incidents reported across the county this year.

The latest thefts were reported in Cass Township on , and Rush Township on .

Latest Verizon Copper Wire Thefts

Cass Township

State police said troopers responded to a reported copper wire theft along Sunbury Road near Live Oaks Road in Cass Township at approximately 8:17 a.m. September 23.

A Verizon employee reported that wiring had been cut from utility poles along Sunbury Road. Police did not provide an estimated value for the stolen cable.

Rush Township

Troopers were dispatched to Claremont Avenue in Rush Township at approximately 6:01 p.m. October 1 for another reported theft.

Investigators determined that approximately 200 feet of copper wire belonging to Verizon had been stolen. Police valued the wire at approximately $1,100.

Both incidents remain under investigation.

Earlier Schuylkill County Wire Thefts

Several other copper and telecommunications wire thefts have been reported in Schuylkill County during 2026.

New Castle Township

Skook News previously reported a copper wire theft from a New Castle Township electrical substation.

Investigators said the theft occurred between July 29 and August 3 near Peach Mountain Road and West Wade Road. Approximately 100 feet of bare copper wire and 20 feet of additional wire, valued at a combined $438, were stolen from Reading Anthracite Company. Damage to a chain-link fence was also reported.

Ryan and Rush Townships

In a Ryan Township wire theft reported July 7, state police said three spools containing approximately 2,300 feet of copper wire were stolen from B.E.I. Electrical at 100 Logistics Drive.

That report also detailed an earlier Rush Township incident in which approximately 30 to 40 feet of Frontier telecommunications cable was cut from utility poles near Barnesville Drive and Grier Avenue between June 4 and June 6.

Schuylkill Township

Two other Verizon copper wire thefts were reported along Old Route 209 in Schuylkill Township.

A theft discovered May 26 involved approximately 1,060 feet of wire valued at $12,300. A second theft, reported June 7, involved approximately 1,200 feet of copper wire between Piersol Street and Mining Road and caused a communications outage, according to state police.

Investigations Remain Ongoing

The state police releases concerning the latest Cass and Rush township incidents did not identify any suspects or indicate whether the thefts are connected to each other or to the earlier cases.
